Acer launches Android phone
Acer’s first Android handset, the A1 Liquid, which was announced back in October, will apparently be shipping this week. According to Aymar de Lencquesaing, head of Acer’s phone unit, the company is planning 8 to 10 new smartphones for 2010, and they expect the balance between Android and Windows Mobile in the new range to be “much more balanced”.
A1 is packing a 3.5? WVGA display, 1 Ghz processor, A-GPS, 5 megapixel camera, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Acer remains tentative about its entry into the crowded smartphone market, aiming at 8-10 handset releases per year, and hope to nab a 6 – 7% market share in the next 3-5 years, but Android should do a better job at spearheading Acer’s entry than Windows Mobile. Leaked projections for the A1 are estimating 1.5 – 2 million sales in 2010, and 500,000 before the end of the year, though it’s a little late launching to reasonably expect in-store holiday stock to be stable.
Sony Ericsson Kurara Preview
The new Sony Kurara, or Satio II, first leaked a couple of weeks ago, and disclosed its 8.1-megapixel camera, touchscreen display and HD video-capture ready status. Sources indicate that this Symbian S60 5th edition device will be powered by a 600 MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, and a 1200 mAh battery will be providing the juice. It will sport an 8 mega pixel camera that is capable of shooting 720p videos. However, there is no confirmation as to whether the 3.5 inch touch screen display will be high definition (though it should be). Video playback capabilities have been confirmed for H.264, H.263, WMV, Real Video and MPEG4 formats.
This high end phone will have full 3G capabilities giving users quad band network support and access to HSDPA networks. It will also support EDGE, GPRS, and WiFi. Also, the Kurara will support Bluetooth, microUSB and microSD.
Nokia E72 Available now
Finally after long time Nokia E 72 is Launched. The E72 comes with a QWERTY, has an upgraded 5 megapixel camera and 3.5mm headphone jack. It also loaded with Nokia Ovi Maps for A-GPS navigation and Nokia Messaging for push email. Well, if you’re an E71 user then visually not much has changed. The keypad has been rearranged (and looking at it, I’d say the rearrangement is logical and should make it easier to use), while on the back you’ll notice a 5 megapixel camera as opposed to 3.2 megapixel cam on the E71 (all the better to TwitPic with!). Also new is the inclusion of a standard 3.5mm audio jack as opposed to the 2.5mm oddity that was present on the E71.
The Nokia E72 also comes with Nokia’s push consumer email service, Nokia Messaging, and now for the first time people can set up instant messaging (IM) directly from the homescreen, accessing communities such as Windows Live(TM) Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and Ovi Chat. Just like chatting via the desktop, people can respond to friends and colleagues across multiple communities in real-time.
