The BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 comes packed with exciting new features including Avatars, View Participants, Large Media File Transfer, Enhanced Group Functionality, Enhanced SMS, Bar-code Identity, Reliable Contact Backup and Restore, and stability enhancements.
The updated version allows users to send or receive large files including pictures, audio and more up to 6MB. With the enhanced group functionality users can update, share and communicate with a subset community. The BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 facilitates users to add contact to the BlackBerry Messenger contact list by displaying a 2-dimensional bar code which can be captured by the invitees with their device cameras. Interestingly, the contacts are backed-up on a server, eliminating the need for BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
