Today Nokia’s released the new Nokia X5 Square Slider in Singapore. The handset is basically a new version of its predecessor Nokia X5 which the company had launched in China, earlier in April; and compared to the latter has totally different design. With a full four-row QWERTY on-board, the Nokia x5 is all about the messaging, so you’ll find easy access to services such as Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and Hi5 already on the device. Then there is access to all your email, inclduing Ovi Mail.

There’s also a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, 200MB of internal storage and a microSD card slot (Nokia include 2GB in the box, and the slot can support up to 32GB). Currently, the handset is available in Black, Hot pink, Bright blue, and yellow colors.

Finally Nokia introduced the Nokia N8, with a 12 megapixel camera, HD video, social networking, Ovi Maps and great gaming potential, running on Symbian^3. Price is just 370 EUR or Rs.22000 approx before taxes. Using the latest Symbian^3 operating system and packed with a tasty 12-megapixel camera using Carl Zeiss optics, the N8 is also the networker’s dream, allowing you to update status, share location and photos, and view live feeds from Facebook and Twitter in a single app directly on the home screen, while calendar events from social networks can also be transferred to the device calendar.

The Nokia army of touchscreen smartphones gets larger by the hour and the Nokia N97 mini is surely one of the most interesting new recruits. The Finnish company has obviously reconsidered its priories and now focuses on optimization, rather than expansion with its flagships. The original Nokia N97 was the first sign of that as it hardly offered any ground-breaking features, instead relaying on the good all-round performance. However the first high-end S60 touchscreen handset left enough room for another similar handset in the portfolio and Nokia feel that its downsized version is enough to fill the gap.

The new version of Firmware 400.21.013 is released for nokia E 71, and it is said to come around with a wide range of fixes, as well as with improved support for Nokia Email / Messaging, and with a pre-installed version of Ovi Contacts. Also new is the inclusion of a standard 3.5mm audio jack as opposed to the 2.5mm oddity that was present on the E71.

Nokia today announced the Nokia 5330 Mobile TV Edition, an entertainment hub that combines mobile broadcast TV (DVB-H), social networking, music and gaming in one compact 3G device. 5330 MTE keeps all the features from its XpressMusic avatar but adds DVB-H to allow users enjoy live television. In addition to the TV viewing capability, it features a 2.4-inch QVGA display, dedicated music keys, support for Ovi services, 3.2MP camera, microSD card slot and 3.5mm headphone jack.

Nokia released a major firmware update for the N97 Symbian smartphone. Bringing substantial improvements to user experience and some new applications, firmware version 20.0.019 is already available for download from the company website. The main change introduced by the new firmware is the system-wide kinetic scrolling. According to Nokia the handset should now have improved memory and battery performance as well as image and video stability.

In addition to improving the user experience, the new firmware should reassure customers (both existing and potential) that Nokia N97 shortcomings aren’t forgotten by the company. With the reception of N900 so universally positive and the S60 struggling to match the competition, shifting the effort in another direction (cough!) wasn’t completely unthinkable.
