World’s Cheapest Tablet Aakash Launched in India

Today India unveiled the new world’s cheapest tablet Aakash priced at $35 meant for the students. Akash tablet has been jointly developed by India along with Britain based company Data Wind. The tablet is powered with Google Android 2.2 (Froyo) and features 7? LCD screen that operates at 800×480 resolution, 256MB of RAM, two USB drives, a 2GB SD memory card and a 32 GB expandable memory slot.

It supports web browsing and video conferencing, has a three-hour battery life and two USB ports, but questions remain over how it will perform. Officials hope the tablet will give digital access to students in small towns and villages across India, which lags behind its rivals in connectivity.
